Meta Platforms Inc.Meta reported Q2 earnings miss and raised capex guidance, causing after-hours drop.

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company cannot rely on third-party open-source AI models and will continue building its own frontier models, citing performance gaps and strategic risks. During the second-quarter earnings call, he stated that open-source models are not as strong as frontier models and that depending on other companies' AI technology carries risk. Despite this, Zuckerberg said open source will remain a big part of Meta's strategy and expects to release some open-source models soon. Meta reported second-quarter revenue of $60.80 billion, beating estimates of $59.50 billion, but adjusted earnings of $6.18 per share fell short of the expected $7.13 per share. The company raised the lower end of its full-year capital expenditure guidance to $130 billion to $145 billion, and shares fell 7.45% in after-hours trading.
