Marriott is in talks to acquire the Salamander Washington, DC, hotel from Sheila Johnson’s Salamander Hotels & Resorts, with plans to bring the property into its Autograph Collection. The deal involves a partnership between private equity real estate firm Henderson Park and Salamander Collection. A spokesperson said the hotel, due to its size and location, would benefit from the additional reach and loyalty points of a large brand, and that Salamander would transition out of management. The hotel is expected to continue accepting reservations during the ownership transition. Johnson, the first Black woman to achieve a billion-dollar net worth, co-founded Black Entertainment Television and leads Salamander Hotels & Resorts, which manages a portfolio of distinctive properties.
