Mastercard IncMastercard introduced Agent Pay, a new payment framework for AI agents, and reported strong Q2 earnings.

Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach says the company introduced Agent Pay last April, a payment framework that lets AI agents shop online for consumers through a secure, tokenized process. Miebach explained that agents are treated as an additional party that must pass the same vetting as a person, with all transactions tokenized for extra safety. He noted the world is not ready for many agentic experiences yet, but Mastercard expects them to come. The company's second quarter net revenue rose 12% year over year to $9.3 billion, with adjusted EPS up 19% to $5.07. Miebach also emphasized Mastercard's commitment to trust, saying wherever the logo appears, consumers should never worry about protection.
