Medical Properties Trust reported second-quarter results and announced a privately negotiated $2.4 billion refinancing transaction that will significantly extend maturities on that amount of debt, capturing a discount of approximately $123 million. The company also agreed to sell certain assets expected to generate roughly $172 million in cash proceeds during the third quarter, and received about $100 million in cash from the initial public offering of Infracore SA, with an additional $35 million anticipated later in the quarter. For the second quarter, MPT posted a net loss of $3 million, or one cent per share, compared with a loss of $98 million, or 16 cents per share, a year earlier, while normalized funds from operations rose to $92 million, or 15 cents per share, from $81 million, or 14 cents per share. The company paid a regular quarterly dividend of nine cents per share in July.
