Meta Platforms is acquiring Swedish startup Stilla.ai to help AI agents complete transactions across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, expanding its AI ambitions beyond chatbots. Axios reported that Stilla's team and technology will join Meta when the transaction closes; the company, founded in 2024, raised $5 million in pre-seed financing in January. The acquisition will support Meta Business Agent, a system designed to help companies interact with customers and facilitate transactions inside Meta's applications, with the direct commercial goal of turning conversations into purchases, bookings and other completed actions. The purchase follows Meta's rollout of Muse, a personal AI agent built to perform tasks across applications and online services, suggesting Meta is developing parallel assistants: one representing consumers and another helping businesses sell to them. Stilla's modest funding history makes this a small acquisition financially but potentially meaningful strategically, and Meta shares rose 6.2% Wednesday as investors assessed a broader AI push increasingly focused on agents that do things, not merely answer questions.
