Meta Platforms Inc.Meta launches new AI agent Muse, a major product development.

Meta unveiled its new artificial intelligence agent, 'Muse,' on Tuesday (September 8), which can automatically send emails, post car sale listings, and book travel tickets on behalf of users, amid internal concerns about managing access to sensitive personal data. The Muse agent, internally codenamed 'Hatch,' is central to CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of delivering 'personal superintelligence' to billions of users. This plan marks a significant step in diversifying revenue to reduce reliance on advertising, following heavy investment in AI chips and infrastructure expected to exceed $130 billion in 2026. Initially, it will be available only in the United States through the Muse app or WhatsApp, with plans to integrate it into smart glasses soon. The basic version is free, while heavier packages cost $20 and $100 per month. Muse is developed following the open-source OpenClaw approach, connecting to email, calendars, payment systems, health data, shopping apps, and smart home systems. Users can choose to connect and revoke access at any time, including opting out of having their data used to train AI models, and an encrypted version will be added within the year. Vishal Shah, vice president of AI product, said the launch was originally planned for April but was delayed to enhance security. While he could not guarantee there would be no errors, the system was designed to be as safe and privacy-protective as possible. However, internal posts seen by Reuters indicate that employees testing the product have reported both successes and issues.
