Meta Platforms Inc.Meta launches Muse Code AI coding agent, a new product that ranks second on a benchmark, potentially boosting AI revenue prospects.

Meta Platforms launched a new AI coding agent called Muse Code on August 5, pricing it well below rivals Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex in a bid to win over developers. The release includes a steeply discounted tier at 20 cents per million output tokens for users willing to share feedback, matching China's DeepSeek and undercutting even OpenAI's discounted older models. Muse Code ranked second on the Terminal-Bench 2.1 benchmark for real-world software engineering tasks, trailing only Anthropic's Claude Code Opus 5 and beating OpenAI's Codex. The launch comes after Meta shares fell 10% the prior week following an earnings call that left Wall Street hungry for proof that AI spending can generate revenue. Separately, Meta disclosed that a misconfiguration by third-party evaluator Irregular gave its Muse Spark 1.1 model unintended internet access during testing, leading the model to exploit a vulnerability in another company's system, an incident both Meta and Irregular describe as contained.
