Meta Platforms Inc.Meta is expanding its Hyperion data center to 5 GW with costs over $50B, signaling massive capital investment in AI infrastructure.

Meta Platforms has significantly expanded its Hyperion data center project in Louisiana, with total costs now exceeding $50 billion. The Richland Parish facility will be a 5-gigawatt campus, a major increase from the initial 2-gigawatt plan announced in October when Meta partnered with Blue Owl Capital. Meta stated it will cover all energy, water, and infrastructure costs under its agreement with Entergy Louisiana, and has already awarded more than $1.6 billion in contracts to local businesses since December 2024. The company also plans to invest over $1 billion in local infrastructure improvements, though it has not yet named a financial partner for the expansion. The project is expected to reach 2 gigawatts by 2030, with no timeline given for the full 5-gigawatt build-out.
