Meta Platforms surged 11.3% on Wednesday, adding $179 billion in market value, after Bloomberg reported the company is building a cloud business to sell excess AI computing capacity. The gain single-handedly offset significant losses elsewhere in the tech sector, with neocloud company CoreWeave dropping 14% on the news. The iShares Semiconductor ETF fell 4.7%, led by Micron Technology's 8.2% decline as investors locked in profits. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was dragged down by Caterpillar's 5.1% drop amid Middle East tensions and Honeywell International's 8.1% post-spinoff slide. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh spoke in Portugal, noting that prices are too high, which sent Treasury yields higher.
