Micron Technology IncCEO states data center customers want ~50% more supply than Micron can commit, indicating strong demand.

Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra is arguing that the memory-chip cycle has been permanently broken, backing the claim with a planned $10 billion investment in a new Boise, Idaho research institution. The company unveiled Micron Research Labs on Aug. 20, with ground breaking in calendar 2027 and work spanning memory technologies, compute architectures, packaging and future semiconductor manufacturing. The lab sits on top of more than $250 billion Micron has separately committed to U.S. manufacturing and research through 2035. Mehrotra told CNBC that data center customers currently want about 50% more supply than Micron can commit to, and the company has disclosed 16 five-year strategic customer agreements alongside its June earnings report. Micron shares closed at $974.33 on Aug. 20, up about 4%, but still roughly 22% below their late-June record close.
