The labor union at Micron Technology's Taiwan operations has said it may resort to a strike if the company does not fundamentally overhaul its bonus system and distribute more profits to employees. The union, comprising workers in Taoyuan and Taichung, said that of the approximately 15,000 employees in the two cities, nearly 10,000 are union members, and that in an online survey in August, over 80% of respondents supported a strike. For fiscal year 2026, the union is demanding an additional one-time payment, arguing that the current incentive pay plan (IPP) does not adequately reflect profitability. The proposed payment would be equivalent to about 83 months of salary per employee working in Taiwan. For fiscal year 2027 and beyond, the union is calling for the abolition of the IPP and a shift to a system that allocates 15% of operating profit to bonuses, with payments made quarterly instead of annually. Micron's Taiwan entity has said that this year's performance-linked bonus payout will be the highest ever, and has indicated it will continue dialogue through existing consultation channels while respecting legal procedures. Taiwan is Micron's largest production site, and a strike could cause significant disruption.
