Microsoft CorporationUK CMA probe over Copilot pricing and subscription communications, with potential fine up to 10% of global turnover.

Microsoft faces a fresh UK consumer-protection probe over how it marketed higher-priced Microsoft 365 plans bundled with Copilot. The Competition and Markets Authority is examining whether customers received clear information before Microsoft changed its Personal and Family plans from January 2025, moving existing subscribers at renewal to higher-priced plans unless they selected another option or cancelled. Microsoft 365 Personal costs 84.99 pounds annually with the added features, compared with 59.99 for Classic, while Family costs 104.99 versus 79.99. The CMA can fine consumer-law violators up to 10% of global turnover, and Australian and Italian authorities are separately examining Microsoft's subscription communications. Microsoft reports fiscal fourth-quarter results after Wednesday's close, with Microsoft 365 Consumer cloud revenue having risen 33% in fiscal Q3, helping Productivity and Business Processes revenue reach $35 billion.
