Microsoft plans to launch its next-generation Maia 300 AI chip this fall, possibly as early as September. The company is currently in talks with TSMC about production capacity, aiming to manufacture over 300,000 chips with delivery scheduled for 2027. Microsoft's long-term goal is to reach production of over one million units, but this target faces significant challenges due to component supply constraints and the progress of negotiations with TSMC. Andrew Wall, general manager of Microsoft Azure Maia, responded that custom silicon remains central to its long-term AI infrastructure strategy, and emphasized that the reported production figures do not reflect the actual scale of the project. TSMC declined to comment.
