Moonshot AI has temporarily suspended new member registrations for its Kimi K3 service after the latest AI model proved so popular that it exceeded the system's processing capacity. In the first 48 hours after its launch last Friday, the volume of usage requests surged close to the limit of the existing GPU clusters. The company therefore redirected all computing resources to serve existing paying members and announced that future membership will be restructured into two packages, one of which is specifically designed for programming tasks. Kimi K3 is an AI model with 2.8 trillion parameters, which Moonshot claims is the largest open-weight model in the world, with a focus on programming and AI agent systems. This suspension of new memberships comes as Moonshot is pushing ahead with a new funding round of up to 2 billion US dollars and preparing for a listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, with Goldman Sachs and CICC acting as financial advisors.
