NVIDIA CorporationMusk notes NVIDIA will provide a very small percentage of its GPUs next year, implying potential demand shift but not directly affecting NVIDIA's current position.
Elon Musk said on SpaceX's Q2 2026 earnings call that memory is the limiting factor for AI compute, spotlighting Micron Technology as the sole U.S.-based maker of high-bandwidth memory among just three global suppliers. Musk said memory output is increasing around 20% per year while demand is increasing 200% per year or higher, predicting prices will keep rising. He also said SpaceX's tentative target is to have 20 gigawatts at the power and cooling level online by the end of next year, though he expects something close to 15 gigawatts, and that NVIDIA will provide a very small percentage of its GPUs next year. Micron closed at $971.66 on Aug. 14, up 240.65% year to date, and trades around 6 times forward earnings. A Motley Fool analysis cited TrendForce forecasts for Q3 2026 DRAM contract price increases of just 13% to 18%, a sharp deceleration from the prior quarter's gains of more than 60% sequentially.
