Elon Musk said SpaceX expects to deploy Nvidia artificial intelligence computing systems in orbit next year, according to a Monday post on X. Musk said he expects SpaceX to place Nvidia's Vera Rubin NVL72 platform in space during 2027; the system combines 72 Rubin graphics processing units with 36 Vera central processing units, along with networking and data-processing components. SpaceX Chief Financial Officer Bret Johnsen previously said the company relies on Nvidia chips for its planned orbital computing effort and indicated the partnership could help SpaceX secure the chip supply needed for the project. The initial satellites are targeted for launch in 2027, with additional deployments planned for 2028. SpaceX intends to modify the spacecraft platform used for newer Starlink satellites, replacing communications hardware with computing equipment and increasing solar-generation capacity.
