The death toll from glacial lake outburst floods and massive flooding in Nepal and China has risen to at least 919, with about 4,800 people still missing, as search and rescue operations entered their sixth day. Nepal has reported 903 deaths and 4,247 missing, while China has 16 deaths and 546 missing in Gyirong County, Tibet Autonomous Region. At least 12 hydropower projects in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts have been damaged, with 933 people missing from these projects. The Nepalese army continues to rescue people trapped in tunnels, with support from teams from China, India, and South Africa. So far, more than 10,000 people have been rescued, and nearly 20,000 security personnel have been mobilized. This disaster has added pressure to Nepal's economy, one of the lowest-income countries in Asia, and challenges the government of 36-year-old Prime Minister Balendra Shah. Nepal has requested international assistance to open tunnels, use large drones to transport supplies, and identify the deceased.
