Samsung Electronics Co LtdOn July 17, the Nikkei 225 briefly fell more than 4,000 points in the afternoon session, dipping below the 63,000 mark for the first time in about a month. Masayuki Doshida, senior market analyst at Rakuten Securities Economic Research Institute, noted that the move was linked to a 6.37% plunge in South Korea's Kospi index. The Nikkei was also swayed by price swings in memory chip giants Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, with profit-taking in memory-related stocks and forced liquidations from margin calls by retail investors accelerating the decline. Looking ahead for the semiconductor market, it is necessary to discern the gap between AI investment expectations and reality, with hyperscaler earnings reports from next week onward in focus. For retail investors, diversifying into high-dividend stocks and domestic demand or infrastructure-related sectors is effective. From a technical perspective, the index has broken below the 25-day moving average and the 13-week moving average, signaling a loss of momentum in the uptrend.
