The Nikkei 225 fell 554.68 points, or 1.95 percent, to 27,934.45 on Friday, extending sharp losses from the previous session as most sectors declined. Technology stocks were among the hardest hit, with Advantest losing almost 3 percent and Sony declining nearly 3 percent. Hitachi Construction Machinery plunged 17 percent, while Toyota Tsusho and Recruit Holdings each lost more than 6 percent. Fast Retailing bucked the trend, surging more than 7 percent after reporting a record first-quarter profit. Producer prices in Japan slipped 0.2 percent month-on-month in December, missing expectations for a 0.3 percent increase.
