The Nikkei Stock Average ended the day at 63,754, down 607 points from the previous session. Despite a series of upward revisions by major companies, broad selling took hold amid a stronger yen and caution over high valuations, with the TOPIX falling 1.08 percent to 3,960.03, outpacing the Nikkei's decline. Fanuc saw its first-quarter operating profit rise 26 percent year-on-year and raised its full-year forecast, yet its shares plunged 14.31 percent. Mitsubishi Electric and Sony Group also fell despite solid results. On the other hand, Renesas Electronics surged 13.45 percent on a sharp jump in operating profit, and Kioxia Holdings gained 5.72 percent, with some semiconductor stocks bucking the trend. The market was driven more by the gap between results and expectations than by the quality of earnings themselves, with exhaustion of catalysts and profit-taking dominating.
