Advanced Micro Devices IncAMD announced an investment in AI startup Anthropic, signaling strong demand for AI infrastructure.
The Nikkei index on the Tokyo stock market closed up 307.00 points, or 0.46 percent, at 66,422.60 points today, supported by technology stocks amid signs that demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States remains strong. Chip and AI stocks drew buying following reports that OpenAI plans to invest more than 30 billion US dollars in a new large-scale data center, and that AMD announced an investment in AI startup Anthropic. However, gains were capped by higher Japanese government bond yields and rising crude oil prices, which raised concerns about the earnings of listed companies in Japan.
