The Nikkei index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed the morning session up 1,114.56 points, or 1.74%, at 65,255.68, supported by a recovery in semiconductor stocks after the index had tumbled more than 4,600 points over the previous two trading days. Chip stocks rose in line with their US peers, while overall buying was capped by Middle East tensions after US President Donald Trump warned of retaliation against Iran over the deaths of three US soldiers.
