Novo Nordisk has halted two late-stage trials of its experimental heart drug ziltivekimab after an independent data monitoring committee found a low likelihood of success, adding to recent pipeline setbacks. The decision follows July results showing ziltivekimab failed to reduce major cardiovascular events compared with placebo in the Phase 3 ZEUS trial. However, another trial in patients recovering from a heart attack will continue, with results expected in H1 2027. The setback is significant as Novo Nordisk had sought to expand into cardiovascular disease to reduce reliance on its obesity and diabetes medicines. Shares traded about 1.55% lower in premarket trading on Tuesday.
