A Las Vegas nurse practitioner has been charged with billing Medicare and TRICARE for $906 million in fraudulent claims for unnecessary amniotic wound allografts on terminally ill hospice patients. Mariel Yukee, 49, allegedly applied the tissue grafts to wounds that had already healed or were not responding to treatment, then falsified medical records to justify the procedures. Of the $906 million in claims, approximately $297 million was paid out. Authorities seized roughly $35.2 million in assets, including a $594,000 Ferrari 296 GTS and an $865,000 Bulgari necklace. The charges are part of a broader national healthcare fraud takedown involving 455 defendants and over $6.5 billion in false claims.
