NVIDIA CorporationNvidia invests $3.5B in MediaTek convertible bonds to expand data center ecosystem, strengthening strategic partnerships.
Nvidia is set to purchase convertible bonds from Taiwan-based chipmaker MediaTek, worth $3.5 billion out of a total bond issuance of $3.9 billion. This marks Nvidia's largest direct investment outside the United States to date. The investment is part of efforts to expand the data center ecosystem, with MediaTek integrating NVLink Fusion and NVHBM technologies with Nvidia's to improve interoperability of data center components. MediaTek aims to compete with Broadcom and Marvell Technology by helping data center providers design and manufacture their own components. A MediaTek spokesperson revealed that Alphabet and other investors also participated in the fundraising, though the amounts were not disclosed. The deal follows Amazon.com's similar agreement to install an additional 2 million Nvidia devices and use Nvidia's interconnect technology alongside its own chips.
