OpenLight and Tower Semiconductor have made OpenLight's photonic process design kit available on Cadence's EDA tools for Tower's PH18DA indium phosphide-on-silicon photonics platform. The PDK enables customers to design advanced photonic integrated circuits within a widely adopted IC design environment, supporting fabrication on the PH18DA platform that integrates active components such as lasers, modulators, and amplifiers into a single monolithic PIC. The collaboration aims to streamline development of 400G and 1.6T laser-integrated photonic integrated circuits for applications including optical interconnects, AI infrastructure, and sensing. OpenLight's CEO Dr. Adam Carter said the integration simplifies adoption and strengthens the path from design to production, while Tower's vice president Dr. Samir Chaudhry noted it enables co-optimized PIC and EIC designs for improved performance, power efficiency, and scalability in next-generation near- and co-packaged optics solutions.
