Oracle CorporationAI adoption is reshaping operations, but job cuts signal cost-cutting; net impact on Oracle is mixed.

Oracle reduced its workforce by about 21,000 employees over the past year as part of a restructuring effort aimed at improving operational efficiency and integrating artificial intelligence across parts of its business. The firm’s global headcount fell to 141,000 full-time employees as of May 31, 2026, down from 162,000 a year earlier, contributing to roughly $1.8 billion in restructuring charges. In its annual filing, Oracle said management approved and expanded a restructuring plan during fiscal 2026 that included the adoption and integration of AI technologies across certain functions and other operational activities. The company added that the adoption and deployment of AI technologies across its operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to its workforce. Oracle has been investing heavily in AI infrastructure and data centers to support customers such as OpenAI while pursuing cost-cutting measures to help offset rising spending requirements.
