Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilpraphan revealed that the Thai government has fully upgraded forced labor prevention measures in line with international standards, after the United States announced a 12.5% import tariff under Section 301 on over 37 trading partners, including Thailand. The cabinet recently approved criteria for imported goods at risk of involving forced labor, based on international standards and guidelines from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. However, Thailand still faces this tariff measure, making it necessary to accelerate export market diversification, reduce over-reliance on any single market, push forward free trade agreement negotiations with new trading partners, and strengthen the domestic economy to increase bargaining power and mitigate the impact of global trade uncertainty.
