Summary · why it matters

Palantir Technologies and Nebius Group announced a strategic partnership on September 8 to bring Nebius's AI-native compute infrastructure into Palantir's commercial platform. Palantir designated Nebius as its preferred sovereign AI infrastructure partner, integrating Nebius compute and inference endpoints directly inside the Palantir enterprise perimeter. The alliance allows commercial clients to deploy open AI models and run compute-heavy workloads while maintaining strict control over proprietary data, and the companies will also collaborate on modular data center deployments to rapidly scale compute capacity where power is available. For Palantir, the deal provides dedicated high-performance compute capacity supporting its rapid U.S. commercial expansion and 157% net dollar retention rate, while for Nebius it validates its full-stack AI cloud infrastructure and unlocks direct access to Palantir's enterprise customer base. The partnership carries execution and capital risks for both sides, with Palantir facing higher hosting and delivery expenses and Nebius remaining subject to persistent EBIT losses and negative free cash flow as it aggressively builds out data centers and acquires GPUs.

Oracle Issues Force Majeure Notice on Data Center Development, Citing Possible Power Supply Delays

Oracle, the major U.S. IT company, has issued a force majeure notice to a subsidiary of U.S. asset manager Blue Owl regarding a large data center development it is pursuing in New Mexico, citing the possibility of delays in securing power. People familiar with the matter confirmed this to Reuters on the 24th. Oracle shares fell more than 3% following the news. According to the people, under the contract, securing power for the data center site is Oracle's responsibility, and Oracle cannot terminate the lease under any circumstances. Blue Owl has invested about 3 billion dollars in the project, with Oracle bearing the debt costs. According to Bloomberg, which reported earlier, Oracle is not withdrawing as the main tenant, but rather seeking to delay the start of payments in case the data center, called Project Jupiter, cannot begin operations as planned in 2028. Project Jupiter is planned to develop a cluster of data centers on a site of about 1,400 acres, and according to reports it has secured 18 billion dollars in financing from a banking syndicate, part of a large contract under which Oracle will provide artificial intelligence computing capacity to U.S. company OpenAI. It has also been incorporated into the Stargate plan to build AI infrastructure in the United States, a plan involving OpenAI, SoftBank Group, Oracle and others that calls for investment on a scale of 500 billion dollars.

Akamai Signs $11.6 Billion Anthropic Cloud Deal, Shares Jump

Akamai Technologies Inc. announced an $11.6 billion seven-year contract with artificial intelligence giant Anthropic, sending its shares up as much as 20% in after-hours trading on Thursday. The agreement will support Anthropic's CPU workload requirements through Akamai Cloud's distributed AI infrastructure and software, and adds to more than $2.8 billion in multi-year Cloud Infrastructure Services commitments Akamai announced earlier this year. Under the deal, Akamai issued Anthropic a warrant for non-voting convertible Series B Preferred Stock representing 7.7 million shares of Akamai common stock on an as-converted basis, or up to approximately 5% of the company's outstanding common stock, at an exercise price of $111.33 per share. About 2% of Akamai's common stock outstanding is expected to vest in connection with the $11.6 billion commitment, with the remaining approximately 3% vesting through expansion of the commitment up to an additional $9 billion within the seven-year warrant term, at roughly 1% of outstanding common stock for each additional $3 billion of cloud services purchased. Total capital expenditures related to the $11.6 billion commitment are estimated at approximately $5.5 billion, and the company expects no impact to its 2026 revenue guidance alongside an increase of approximately $1.7 billion in 2026 capital expenditures to secure and pre-purchase critical supply chain components, including memory.

Oracle Credit Insurance Hits Record High as AI Spending Fears Mount

Oracle is facing mounting pressure in credit markets as the cost of insuring its debt jumped to a record high on fears about the enormous bill for its artificial intelligence expansion. The yield on Oracle's 6.7% bonds due 2056 climbed above 8% for the first time on Thursday, according to Seeking Alpha statistics, a significant move for a company rated Baa2 by Moody's and BBB- by S&P, near the bottom of investment grade. The strain reflects Oracle's heavy spending on data centers and processing resources needed to compete in AI, which has made the company more reliant on debt financing and turned borrowing rates into a key part of the investing story. Shares of Oracle fell approximately 4% Thursday afternoon to around $139. Adding to the uncertainty, Oracle is said to have sent a force majeure notice to the developer of its Project Jupiter data center in New Mexico, an action meant to shield it from some financial exposure if regulatory and infrastructure challenges delay the facility's planned inauguration in 2028. Credit default swaps have also widened on a few big tech names as investors rethink the cost of the industry's AI infrastructure buildout, with rising Treasury yields making borrowing more expensive across the market. The next catalyst for Oracle will be whether its growing AI cloud business can generate enough growth and cash flow to match the investments required to build it.
