Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed that this government will not clear anyone who breaks the law, and has given full authority to officials to handle the unrest in the three southern border provinces and the drug problem. This follows a clash between criminals and a drug trafficking group in Tak Bai district, Narathiwat province, which resulted in the deaths of two police officers. The army chief and deputy national police chief have already visited the area to monitor the situation. The prime minister has instructed local authorities to take care of villagers and to strictly crack down on drugs. He also revealed that Myanmar's president will visit Thailand on August 6 to seriously discuss drugs, toxic substances in rivers, and haze pollution. In addition, he noted that drug and contraband seizures are ongoing, including the seizure of contraband worth 200 to 300 million baht in Ranong province, and most recently in Chumphon province on August 1. As for the siege and clash at Lam Mai police station in Yala province, the prime minister has received the report and ordered officials to take full action without having to ask back to the government, because all authority already rests with the officials. He stressed that peace talks and suppression must go hand in hand.
