Prime Minister Takaichi Meets IEA Executive Director, Agrees to Strengthen Cooperation on Energy Resilience

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with International Energy Agency Executive Director Fatih Birol at the Prime Minister's Office on the 14th, calling for stronger cooperation to make the global energy supply and demand structure more resilient. Amid continued disruption to crude oil procurement caused by instability in the Middle East, the Prime Minister stressed her intention to advance the resilience of the global supply and demand structure. She explained that in August she put together a policy package aimed at fundamentally strengthening energy procurement, including support for building a pipeline that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. Birol praised Japan for playing a leading role in Asia on energy security, and stated that the IEA stands ready to support these efforts.
