Rangsiman Presses Anutin to Untangle Scam Probe After Woraphak's Name Surfaces in US Sanctions Network

Rangsiman Rome, deputy leader of the People's Party, is calling on the government to investigate and act seriously after the United States prepared to sanction individuals and companies tied to scam networks in Southeast Asia, with the name of Woraphak Thanyawong, a former deputy finance minister, among those listed, because the matter affects the credibility of the Thai government. Rangsiman said Woraphak had once served on a working team and had taken part in crackdowns, and that the current government likes to use thieves to catch thieves, which has given rise to suspicion and must be cleared up urgently, especially regarding Ekniti Nitithanprapas, a deputy prime minister and finance minister who plays a key role in addressing the problem. He proposed examining financial trails and legal cases, as well as individuals linked to BIC Bank; if there are assets tied to wrongdoing, they should at the very least be seized for investigation and to halt transfers, and related oil companies must also be dealt with. As for the 180-day timeframe the United States has set for Thailand to investigate, Rangsiman said it is not America's deadline but a period that affects the Thai government's credibility, and he pointed out that many political figures with connections and large companies, including oil firms, are involved. If nothing is done, it will hurt the country's credibility, and people doing honest business will be affected as well.
