Intel CorporationBillionaire investor Ray Dalio warned that the United States is entering a particularly risky period marked by rising debt pressures and political uncertainty leading into the 2026 to 2028 election cycle. In a post on X, Dalio said the US government currently spends 7 trillion dollars while only taking in approximately 5 trillion dollars, resulting in 40 percent overspending, and that demand for that debt is falling due to supply-demand dynamics and geopolitical concerns. He suggested financing persistent deficits could become more difficult if fewer investors are willing to absorb rising debt issuance, potentially pushing borrowing costs higher. Dalio's warning comes as President Donald Trump defended the rising national debt, economist Steve Hanke pointed to a massive supply-side shock from Iran tensions, and Upgrade CEO Renaud Laplanche noted US credit card debt has reached about 1.3 trillion dollars.
