HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has terminated Emergency Use Authorizations for drugs and medical devices to treat COVID-19. The EUAs for drugs and biologics will end in 12 months and in 180 days for medical devices. COVID vaccines are not impacted by today's action given that the three shots available in the US, manufactured by Moderna, Pfizer and BioNTech, and Novavax, have received traditional approval following their own EUAs. Drugs such as Pfizer's Paxlovid and Merck's Lagrevio are impacted by the directive.
