Roche Holding AGRoche launches first fully automated Hepatitis D test, a new product development.

Roche has introduced the cobas HDV test, the first high-throughput, fully automated diagnostic assay for Hepatitis D Virus RNA, now available in countries accepting the CE mark. The test runs on the cobas 5800, 6800, and 8800 systems, enabling reliable diagnosis and treatment monitoring for the nearly 12 million people globally affected by this most severe form of viral hepatitis. Hepatitis D can only infect individuals already carrying Hepatitis B, and super-infection leads to chronic disease in over 90% of cases, accelerating liver damage. The new assay addresses the urgent need for consistent, widely accessible testing as specific HDV treatments become available in many markets. By automating the process, laboratories can deliver faster, more accurate results to help clinicians make timely decisions.
