Rocket Lab USA Inc.Wins $397M U.S. Space Force contract for satellite development and launches

Rocket Lab stock has surged 27.5% in August after the company announced a new contract worth up to $397 million with the U.S. Space Force to develop, launch, and operate next-generation satellites for detecting and monitoring airborne threats. The deal, revealed on August 4, involves satellites that will provide low-latency, high-bandwidth data transmissions and are scheduled to launch on Rocket Lab's Neutron rocket. The August rally follows a 36.1% decline in July, which was driven by a broad sell-off in space stocks amid macroeconomic and geopolitical concerns, including intensified conflict in Iran and a valuation pullback for Space Exploration Technologies after its June IPO. Despite the July drop, Rocket Lab secured multiple contracts that month, including a $266 million deal with the U.S. Space Force and additional launches for iQPS.
