Collins Aerospace, an RTX business, announced that its Engineering Center of Excellence in Wolverhampton, U.K., is now fully operational. The facility features a state-of-the-art, modular, and scalable test facility dedicated to advancing next-generation electric thrust reverser actuation systems, known as elecTRAS. By eliminating traditional hydraulic interfaces and fluids, the elecTRAS technology enables a 15-20% weight reduction for nacelle actuation at the integrated aircraft system level, lowering development costs and improving fuel efficiency. Designed to simulate real-world flight conditions for components, actuators, and full systems, the new facility allows engineering teams to integrate early-stage testing data into analytical models, enabling rapid identification and resolution of design issues to prevent program delays. Currently utilized across the Airbus A350 family, Collins' elecTRAS technology has already logged over 15 million flight hours and 2.2 million flight cycles across a global fleet of more than 700 aircraft as of 2025.
