CoreWeave, Inc. Class A Common StockReported Anthropic-Rumble compute deal and Amodei's call to slow frontier AI development pressured rented-compute peers, sending CoreWeave down 9%.
Rumble shares rose 10% to $7.87 in early Monday trading after a media report identified Anthropic as the customer behind the $13.7 billion six-year compute contract Rumble disclosed in an August securities filing. The reported arrangement would let Anthropic acquire up to 51 million Rumble shares at $0.01 each, though neither company has confirmed the pairing and the capacity is expected to come from a Maysville, Georgia data center that is still under construction. The same report pressured rented-compute peers, with CoreWeave down 9% to $81.25 and Nebius Group down 9% to $205.28, as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's weekend essay urging frontier AI firms to slow model development weighed on the group. The First Trust Cloud Computing ETF slipped just 0.58% while the Invesco QQQ Trust fell 1.63%, concentrating the selling in AI-compute names. Rumble entered AI infrastructure this year by acquiring German cloud provider Northern Data in an all-stock deal and now runs its media platform alongside a unit called Quake AI, which also provides cloud hosting for Trump Media & Technology Group's Truth Social.
