Samsung Electronics Co LtdQ2 operating profit surged 18-fold on AI memory chip demand, setting record revenue and profit

Samsung Electronics released its second-quarter 2026 earnings. Benefiting from both higher volumes and prices for AI memory chips, consolidated revenue reached 171.5 trillion Korean won, up 130 percent year-on-year, setting a new quarterly record. Operating profit came in at 89.5 trillion won, a jump of 1,813.8 percent from a year earlier, marking the third consecutive quarter of record highs. In China's A-share market, tech growth sectors such as AI and semiconductors have seen a notable pullback since July. The Shanghai STAR 100 Index fell 4.83 percent on the afternoon of July 30, and the Bosera STAR 100 ETF slipped 4.77 percent to 1.54 yuan. However, the ETF is still up 16.13 percent year-to-date. Ping An Securities believes tech assets still dominate and offer allocation value. The Shanghai STAR 100 Index's latest price-to-earnings ratio stands at 108.27 times, at a historically low level in the 3.07th percentile over the past year.
