Samsung Electronics Co LtdShares fell 9% on Friday amid semiconductor selloff; upcoming capex plans may pressure margins
Samsung Group may unveil a 1,000 trillion won, or $646 billion, spending plan over the next decade during a Monday presidential briefing. Samsung and SK Hynix each dropped more than 9% on Friday amid a broader semiconductor selloff, though a strategist argued the upcoming capex announcements were not the cause. SK Hynix Chairman Chey Tae-won has said he wants to double capacity over the next half decade, while Samsung Executive Chairman Jay Y. Lee is expected to unveil a data center investment plan in Asan on July 2. The briefing, hosted by President Lee Jae Myung, will include discussions on semiconductors, AI data centers, and physical AI.
