SDIC Power Holdings Co LtdSDIC Power's subsidiary leads the 33.4 billion yuan Yagen II hydropower project, enhancing profitability of Yalong River Hydropower.
SDIC Power's controlling subsidiary Yalong River Hydropower plans to establish a joint venture with CATL to invest in and build the Yagen II hydropower station, with a total dynamic investment of 33.394 billion yuan. The Yagen II hydropower station is located on the main stream of the Yalong River in Yajiang County, Garze Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is the third stage of the 'one reservoir, seven stages' hydropower development plan for the middle reaches of the Yalong River, with a total installed capacity of 2.4 million kilowatts and an estimated annual power generation of about 8.645 billion kilowatt-hours. The total construction period is 101 months, with the first unit expected to be commissioned in 2035 and full completion in 2036. The joint venture company will be 90% owned by Yalong River Hydropower and 10% by CATL. On a look-through basis, SDIC Power will hold an effective stake of about 46.8%, Sichuan Chuantou Energy about 43.2%, and CATL 10%. The investment has been approved by the board of directors of SDIC Power and still requires approval from the National Development and Reform Commission. For SDIC Power, the project will enhance the profitability of Yalong River Hydropower. The exploitable hydropower capacity in the Yalong River basin is about 30 million kilowatts, of which 19.2 million kilowatts are already in operation. For CATL, this marks another hydropower investment following its stake in the Danba hydropower station on the Dadu River, aiming to secure green electricity supply, reduce the carbon footprint of batteries, address the EU carbon border tax and new battery regulations, and explore new models of hydro-storage synergy.
