Mastercard IncMastercard's $1.8B acquisition of BVNK for stablecoin settlement infrastructure is highlighted as an industry effort in the agentic commerce space.
The Secure Technology Alliance launched the Agentic Trust and Commerce Forum on August 4, 2026, to establish rules for a projected $300 billion U.S. agentic commerce market by 2030. The forum, spun out of the U.S. Payments Forum, aims to address gaps in agent identity, intent capture, consumer authorization, and dispute handling for AI-initiated transactions. The launch coincided with a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in Amazon v. Perplexity AI that classified AI agents as browsers, leaving users liable for agent actions under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Industry efforts include Visa's $2.4 billion acquisition of BioCatch for behavioral biometrics and Mastercard's $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK for stablecoin settlement infrastructure. The forum's first in-person meeting is scheduled for November 17-18, 2026, at the Best Buy corporate campus in Minneapolis.
