The Shanghai Composite Index closed at its highest level in nearly two weeks, boosted by a surge in semiconductor stocks. The index ended at 3,878.43 points, up 56.15 points or 1.47%. SMIC rose 3.59%, Hua Hong Semiconductor jumped 6.56%, and GigaDevice soared 8.26% after reports that Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are evaluating the use of chip-making equipment from China's AMEC, which could be deployed in their Chinese plants amid concerns over tightening US export controls. On the economic data front, China's services purchasing managers' index, the S&P Global-compiled RatingDog China Services PMI, slowed in July to 50.4, down from 54.1 in June and below the analyst forecast of 53.7, but still above the 50 mark indicating the services sector continues to expand.
