Beijing Shougang Co LtdArticle states grain-oriented electrical steel demand will maintain relatively high growth, benefiting Shougang as a producer.

Shougang Group stated during a conference call on July 8 that, as a key soft magnetic material for power systems, market demand for grain-oriented electrical steel will maintain relatively high growth for a considerable period. Driven by confirmed demand growth, domestic grain-oriented electrical steel production capacity has also risen rapidly in recent years, and overall capacity is expected to keep growing in 2026. Overall, both supply and demand for grain-oriented electrical steel are increasing, and developments in the power industry will drive the product toward higher efficiency, higher grades, and greener production. On the non-grain-oriented side, total domestic demand in 2026 is forecast at around 15 million tonnes, with significant growth in new energy vehicles and new quality productive forces represented by humanoid robots, the low-altitude economy, and high-end intelligent equipment. On the supply side, non-grain-oriented electrical steel capacity continues to trend upward, but the oversupply situation remains unchanged, and a mismatch in the supply-demand structure may accelerate the elimination of outdated capacity.
