Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow disclosed that peace talks with dissident groups in the three southern border provinces have been postponed due to the latest serious incident. The National Security Council will meet tomorrow to reassess the overall situation. The government places great importance on this matter and needs to review security measures and intensify security efforts. At the same time, it must investigate which group was responsible for the incident, hence the need to delay the talks. Regarding the visit by Defence Minister General Adul Boonthamcharoen to Malaysia yesterday, Thailand has sought cooperation and Malaysia is ready to cooperate. Mr Sihasak also commented on intelligence assessments suggesting that insurgent groups may have infiltrated from the Middle East, saying that this must be monitored and investigated according to procedure, but stressed that the incidents are our own internal matter.
