SK Hynix IncIPO raises $26.5B, passive buying expected from index inclusion
SK Hynix priced its U.S. initial public offering at $149 per American depositary share, raising roughly $26.5 billion in the second-largest share sale ever. The Korean company controls approximately 58% of the high-bandwidth memory market, making it the dominant supplier of the memory that feeds NVIDIA’s most advanced AI chips. Revenue is expected to triple to $235 billion this year, with over $720 billion in capital investment planned, primarily in South Korea, plus roughly $458 million from the U.S. CHIPS Act for an Indiana advanced packaging facility. New HBM supply is not expected before late 2027, keeping record-high prices intact, while the stock could see up to roughly $14 billion in passive buying as it enters major indices over the next few months. The longer-term risk, however, is that memory cycles have historically ended in crashes.
