SK Hynix IncRecord profit missed analyst expectations, disappointing investors

SK Hynix shares fell 9.6% in Seoul trading on Wednesday after the company reported record quarterly operating profit that missed analyst expectations. Operating profit rose more than sixfold, driven by strong demand for high-bandwidth memory used in AI computing, but shipment delays for some advanced products limited DRAM price increases. The company disclosed roughly 10 long-term supply agreements aimed at reducing exposure to volatile semiconductor-demand cycles, though analysts warned these contracts could cap gains if memory prices keep rising. Investors were also disappointed by the lack of detailed plans for boosting shareholder returns from the AI boom. The stock, which has lost more than half its value since a record high last month, contributed to a 6% drop in South Korea's KOSPI index.
