Impact on stocks 2
China Mobile LimitedSoftBank Group fell roughly 13% in Tokyo Monday as investors pulled back from AI-linked stocks, according to The Guardian. Separately, Reuters reported that OpenAI will not move ahead with an IPO this year. SoftBank's announced $30 billion follow-on investment in OpenAI is split into three $10 billion installments scheduled for April 1, July 1 and October 1; the company has already completed the July payment and disclosed a $10 billion bridge facility used to finance it, leaving one final $10 billion installment, equal to one-third of the total follow-on commitment. OpenAI staying private for longer does not automatically alter SoftBank's investment obligation, and an eventual IPO would not necessarily turn the stake into immediately available cash. Investors should watch the cost of financing, the bridge-loan repayment structure and whatever liquidity restrictions accompany the investment.
