The firm has completed only two new deals over the past two years, while currently evaluating four or five potential targets, according to Alex Szapiro, SoftBank's managing partner and head of Brazil. Latin American startup investment peaked at $16 billion in 2021 before falling to $4.3 billion in 2025, a decline of 73%. SoftBank has already fully deployed $8 billion across its dedicated regional funds, with major stakes in companies such as Rappi, Kavak, QuintoAndar, Creditas and Nu Holdings. The Latin America fund represented just over 2% of SoftBank's total equity holdings at the end of March, down from about 5% three years earlier, as Masayoshi Son has shifted more focus toward AI infrastructure, OpenAI and Arm Holdings.
