Solana has launched Payment Channels, a feature that allows AI agents to authorize a spending limit once and make multiple payments without needing approval for each transaction. The system enables agents to pay for data, computing power, and AI-generated answers repeatedly, with individual payments recorded separately and settled in a single transaction on the Solana blockchain. Funds are held in a secure escrow account, and unused funds are returned after settlement. Solana reported that Payment Channels processed over 1 million payments per second in tests involving 100,000 wallets. Alibaba Cloud is also launching API endpoints using Payment Channels, allowing AI agents to access its inference services after a one-time authorization instead of approving each call. This move expands Solana's payment use cases beyond traditional crypto transfers toward machine-to-machine payments.
